Our founder, Julián came to Cabo with his family in 1989. At just 11 years old, he started helping his father run his boat.
He watched Cabo grow from a quiet fishing community into the international destination it is today.
He established Mako Experiences over 20 years ago to help visitors see the side of Cabo that most never venture to with his personal guidance, local knowledge and respect for the ocean.

Real ocean stories from our guests
The most meaningful Mako Experiences are reflected in how guests feel when they return to the marina more comfortable in the ocean, more connected to its wildlife and more aware of the side of Cabo that exists beyond the familiar route.
We followed breaching humpback whales and also found dolphins, mobula rays, a thresher shark and a sea turtle. Julián was remarkably skilled at spotting wildlife from far away. Watching dolphins and humpback whales together is a memory we will carry with us for a long time.
Julián’s local knowledge and experience made the trip incredible. We saw humpback whales and several species of dolphins, including babies, before entering the water with the dolphins. We also encountered turtles and sea lions. The team helped us with our cameras and equipment throughout the experience.
What wildlife could we see?
Depending on the season and ocean conditions, you may encounter humpback whales, dolphins, sharks, mobula rays, sea lions, orcas and other open-ocean wildlife. Every day is different, and no particular species or behavior can be guaranteed.
Do you have any guarantees
The wildlife, the direction of our route and the type of encounters we have depend on the season, weather, conditions and natural movement of wildlife. We cannot guaranteed any particular animal or behavior. That uncertainty is part of what makes the experience real. Nature decides what appears and we respectfully respond.
Do the tours follow a fixed route?
No. Wildlife does not follow a schedule, so our route changes according to the weather, ocean conditions and signs of animal activity that day.
Do I need previous experience?
Experience requirements depend on the tour. Whale watching is boat-based. The Ocean Safari and shark snorkeling requires guests to be comfortable swimming in open water, unless a guest wishes not to get in the water. Contact us if you have questions about your comfort level or ability.
How many people are on each tour?
Mako Experiences offers small shared-group departures so each guest can receive more personal attention and enjoy a less crowded experience.
What happens if the weather is not suitable?
Safety comes first. If the captain determines that the weather or ocean conditions are not suitable, the departure may be changed, delayed, rescheduled or cancelled.
